As our busy schedules get busier, the cost of living gets higher, and our careers become less traditional, we are adapting. And the current trend is figuring out how to live with less. For some people, this transformation means paring down a wardrobe and kitchen utensils, and for others it means living within smaller walls altogether.

The micro lifestyle requires you to make thoughtful decisions about every item around you. Is it worth the space? Does it function to its full potential? Micro living can be seen in a high-rise apartment building, a traditional home, an RV, or a popular tiny home.

If you are considering downsizing to micro living, it’s a good plan to test the waters first. One of the best ways to see how you do in a small space is to rent or purchase an RV (a motorhome, trailer, or fifth wheel) and use it as your primary residence for awhile. If it fits the bill, you might have found your home on wheels! But if it’s just not enough space or you would prefer to live small under a traditional roof and on a foundation, don’t let that RV be wasted space.

Treat overnight visitors to a unique stay by outfitting your RV to be a guest suite. There are hotels that exclusively offer stays in updated trailers, and they are all the rage. Jump on the trend and turn your RV into a getaway destination for your friends and family.

Make sure the bed is plush and large enough for your guests. If the RV will be stationary in your backyard, you don’t need to be too concerned about the weight of the items you introduce. Fresh linens, a stocked refrigerator, a coffee pot, and a basket of breakfast items will make them feel right at home. Extend the inviting vibe outside by setting up a pair of chairs and an umbrella for a sunshade. Whether indoors or out, don’t be afraid to feature a sign or tea towel with a trailer pun or two.
